Resident barricade halts phone mast

Owners of mobile phones have a choice of when and how often to use them. The 450 children attending this primary and middle school do [bold]not[/bold] have a choice over the installation of these three masts, 60 yards from their classrooms. They, nor the school, were even told about it. [italic]Neither were the residents living ten feet away![/italic] As for the health issues, even T-Mobile's OWN RESEARCH [italic](ECOLOG Institute in Hanover Report 2000)[/italic] shows that there is a substantial risk, but of course they buried this research in favour of more sympathetic research commissioned hastily afterwards, but fortunately it was leaked, and can be found on the internet. Sir William Stewart was commissioned by the UK government to research potential effects (Stewart Report, May 2000), yet have ignored all his advice when he found a link between masts and illnesses - specifically in placing masts near schools.

Kelvin in deep water while Scots walked tall

Wendy's brother, Douglas, the International Development Secretary, faced the usual calls to resign after an official report fingered him for the Holyrood voting fiasco, in which 140,000 votes ganged agley. The report did not name him but accused a "small buffoon" of indulging in "party self-interest" when designing the ballot paper. Whitehall cock-ups continued when HM Revenue and Customs lost a copy of its entire child benefits database, containing details of 25 million people, who were urged to monitor their bank accounts "for unusual activity". Even Broon's details were included, though his bank account just contains a dead spider. Broon's ludicrous premiership faced a new crisis after the comical Fifer admitted secret donations to Labour from a property tycoon were illegal. Broon promised to hand back the £650,000 given through intermediaries by David Abrahams.

Microfinance Boosts the Poor

Yes, the owner has enemies, mainly because of his hold on a TV franchise, but are the bank's lending practices really very different from the others'?

Some people argue that people with scant credit history (aka poor) should qualify for reduced rates, but that means taking higher risks for fewer rewards. And, if subsidized, such a program would merely encourage prosperous applicants to understate income.

People who think Grameen Bank sustains itself by charitable lending terms have not looked at its Web site. Its "latest" (rather stale) 2005 annual report makes no disclosure of past due loans. A holy rollover miracle, surely.

A better way to help the poor would be to abolish lotteries and encourage people to invest instead in bonus coupons that could be redeemed with interest when the person needs to buy an appliance or piece of equipment.

Archives for: February 2008 , 09

It's been a while since I've posted. School, work, play - you know, general life stuff that tends to get in the way. But rest assured that I AM going to make a concentrated effort to update this thing more often because there are a lot of really great things going on.

Like tonight: Daniel Johnston at Slowdown. It's gonna be real interesting, and good to boot. Eighteen bucks to see a legendary singer-songwriter. Plus, I haven't seen Flowers Forever yet, and I've heard mixed reviews...very anxious to decide for myself. On a very unrelated note, today I read an excellent article in the Jan. 28 New Yorker on the Obama/Clinton race. I'm not well versed in politics, and frankly, not terribly interested in them either. But this article made me think about the differences in ideology of the two candidates, which was really great.

Misadventures in Atlanta

Slim are you my long lost twin sister??? Dang, it sounded like you were describing me! I completely understand what you mean when you feel that guys don't take you serious b/c of your funny bone - I have the same thoughts. Do you ever feel like you get stuck in the "friend zone" a lot because of your humor? I do…

My two favorite compliments are: "You are so funny" and "You are so intelligent/smart". I get all weird and try to change the subject when a get a compliment on my looks.

As far as sexiness and a guys - outside of physical appeal, being smart is SO sexy to me. As a matter of fact, I love guys who wear glasses because it portrays a look of intelligence (to me)
