Movie man David Stratton launches new book

DETERMINED to distinguish himself from the "jaded old farts" that litter the top end of the film industry, David Stratton's memoirs begin at the trough.

I Peed on Fellini, shows another side to the debonair, white-bearded, sports jacket-wearing film buff who battles it out with Margaret Pomeranz on the weekly ABC television show At The Movies.

Stratton is well aware that 22 years of reviewing films with Pomeranz has cast him as the serious one, but he is keen to dispel that myth.

"I think some people assume from the television that I'm rather serious, and I'm not really," he says over a cup of tea.

"For years I'd said as a joke that if ever I wrote a book like this I'd call it I Peed on Fellini."

For the record, Stratton did, as his memoirs detail, pee on the renowned Italian director Federico Fellini.

Sunnyside lounge G Spot X'd out

Sunnyside men will have a hard time finding the G Spot.

The owner of the suggestively named business - which many locals believed was to become a strip club - is now hoping to open a restaurant in the nondescript building on Barnett Ave. near the Long Island Rail Road tracks.

Two years after the initial controversy erupted over the Punto G - Spanish for G Spot - Emilio Rubio said he now plans to open the Calibar Restaurant and Lounge on the site.

But he continues to face community opposition.

Rubio took down what a local lawmaker called a "sexually explicit logo" from the building's facade this month.

But he steadfastly denied he ever planned to open a pole-dancing palace there.

"From the beginning, we told the community that it wasn't going to be a strip club," Rubio told the Daily News.

… the company had trouble making money off ads on social networking sites, including News Corp.'s MySpace, Google executives said. Under the MySpace deal, Google is committed to paying revenue even if advertisers don't click on ads.

"We have found that social networking inventory is not monetizing as well as expected," said Chief Financial Officer George Reyes.

Creating PCs that can learn, inventor's goal

Chip designers received an interesting challenge this month from Jeff Hawkins, the founder of Palm and Handspring and an expert on the human brain: If they really want to design something intelligent, they shouldn't be doing processors. They should be making memories.

At the International Solid State Circuits Conference in San Francisco, Hawkins addressed the question, "Why can't a computer be more like a brain?"

He has been preoccupied with that question for decades and has been working on the answers for his startup, Numenta.

Hawkins, inventor of the Palm Pilot, wrote about his research on the brain in 2005, in the top-selling book, "On Intelligence."

He created the Redwood Neuroscience Institute in 2002 and in 2005 cofounded Numenta with his longtime partner Donna Dubinsky.
